Feeling and emotion are your ‘Bread and Butter’, man!

Have you ever noticed how you prioritize your life and living? What is the most important thing you are doing today? Working? Getting stressed? Rushing the kids out the door to get them to school on time? Yourself to work on time? 

Is this your reason for getting out of bed in the morning? To rush and be stressed before you’ve even taken your first real breath of the day? If it is, you need to ask yourself, “Why?”.

Prioritize Your Feeling First

What if you lingered in bed a minute longer with the drapes wide open so you could just watch the sun colour the sky for you. What would you feel in your heart? How far would your smile reach? How many people would get caught up in your smile today? 

The answer is everyone you meet and all because you took a few simple minutes to position yourself into a resonance of peaceful calm or joyfulness. Perhaps a position of joyful anticipation of what little unexpected spark of light would brighten your day. When you start with this mindset you have no need of being wary of the rug being ripped out from under your feet.

At some point in all our lives we learned, and agreed to a concept that our ability to live and even have a life has to do with earning the all mighty bread and butter to keep us alive. Yes, money is important, but it’s time to check your belief system on this idea. Is it work and earnings before joy? Earn the money before having fun? Can’t it all be joyful and fun?

Perhaps you’ve been anchored to a belief that this expression about ‘bread and butter’ is  all about money and earnings. Well, I’m here to tell you that feelings and emotions are your bread and butter. The real potential you have to have a healthy, fulfilling, abundant life starts and ends with the feelings and emotions that create the landscape of the world you live in.

This is not a PollyAnna tale. This is a story about the architecture of your life of joy. If you think you can build a satisfying, joyful life by focusing only on the doing/earning aspects of your world, you are missing the point. Life is about how you are being, no matter what you are doing. No matter where you are. 

Every aspect of every day IS your life and life is the jackpot for all of us.

This is not me saying, don’t go to work because you hate your job or any other nonsense like that. It’s about saying, maybe its time for some self examination because if you aren’t experiencing sweeping waves of abundant wellbeing in your daily experience, then you need to do some fine-tuning. 

The fine-tuning comes through your recognition of the role of feelings and emotions in your life.

What you start to recognize is that you are actually purchasing every experience of your life through feelings and emotion; pay attention and you’ll start to see how you are participating.

When you open your heart and spread your wings wide open, you will ride into your life on the winds of change like you are riding in on a magic carpet instead of like a tumble weed.

This is purchasing your life through joyful, positive feeling and emotion. What does it take? It can always start with a simple smile. What if for today, before you spoke any word to any person (including yourself) you simply smiled. See where your tone changes and see how you are received and perceived differently.

  • Just smile. 
  • How could you not be in love with life? 
  • How could life not be in love with you?
  • Keep your heart light and bright an airy. 
  • Keep your positive feelings and emotions moving and they will catch you by the waist and fling you up in a tree for a better view of your life.
  • Man, oh man…what a view it is!
  • Keep it going. 

Now that you know what your “bread and butter” is, get out there and go purchase your magic carpet.

It’s time. Start purchasing the experiences of your life with joy!


ACTION: Sometime today whenever it works…

Go get yourself a latte and sit on a park bench for an hour and see what you see. Actually see, and then come home and write about all the wisdom you have uncovered about life in that one little hour. That one moment in time. 

Then follow the joyful feeling insight and see where life wants to take you. That’s all you will ever need to do. Start following the feeling instead of the habit.
